Abstract

As a part of the activities of the Institute for the development of banking sector of the country and bankers as a dynamic professional group, it publishes the journal every half yearly. Broadly, the objective of the journal is to encourage new thinking and ideas. on conceptual framework and contemporary problems of the banking sector of the world in general and of Bangladesh in particular. As the operational efficiency of banking sector is primarily being judged by its contribution to economic development of the country, articles on problems and prospects of the country's economy are also being considered for publication in this journal. With this end in view the Journal tries to accommodate ideas and thoughts of professional bankers, economists and academicians on different current issues of Bangladesh economy, which in totality can be of great help to the policy makers, administrators and the managers in taking decisions for dimensional changes in the operation of the banking sector as a major contributor to country's economic development. I hope the readers shall find papers on some interesting topics like "Deregulation in Banking", "Off-shore Banking", "NGO-FI Cooperation in Bangladesh" etc. in this issue. The editor takes this opportunity to invite practising senior bank executives, management experts and academicians who would like to contribute articles on different issues relating to Bangladesh economy in general and banking sector in particular.
